CircleSide: interview by Blair Watson
CircleSide is an entertainment group that has made major moves in the past year. A group of individuals, who went from elementary through graduation day together and are now conducting business as a team. They have made their presence known and their efforts will no longer go unnoticed. Most recently they have made noise throughout the city with their weekly events and the hot freestyles that are being released on a regular basis from their artist. Where did the name CircleSide come from?
Von Swagger: In high school we were labeled as “The Circle” because we really only kicked it with each other. We became more serious about the music and Ric Vocalz created the name “CircleSide” which is really an oxymoron because a circle has no sides but we are a closed circle where no one can get in and side referring to loyalty.
How long have you all known each other?
Black SupaFly: basically we all been knowing each other since elementary, middle school and high school. I mean we all grew up in the same city, Maple Heights, “The MAP” we graduated in ’09.
What are the pros and cons of doing business with your friends?
Louie: The pros for me just working with guys I really have respect for is they know you no matter what situation. So you are never judged for real even though you might feel like it sometimes it’s just a support system. Working with your brothers it’s all love it’s a good energy!
Dizzy: There really are no cons working with your brothers for real. Just make sure everybody remains the same and get this money.
What all does CircleSide have to offer?
King B: Other than party promotion and doing music with CircleSide we have tattoo artist, graphics designers, videography/photography, comedians, actors, host and barbers – “CircleSideThe Empire”
What was the first event hosted that was a success?
Flex: The House Party; CRAZY!! October 31, 2012 Kent OH at Campus Point apartments; CRAZY! The line outside looked like Earth Sundays. We had a live Dj who was DJ Ed E. CRAZY!
Mike Perfect: The first venue I felt like was a success was Mulberry’s November 25th the Holiday Banger. Check the Flyer! It was 5 DJ’s and 5 host with Futuristic Movement, Sean Oatz and them fools.
Being in the entertainment industry what came as a shock to you?
Flex: it’s a lot of fakeness; it’s a lot of back stabbing. You can’t trust many people but business is business you can’t take it personal
What advice do you have for others who are interested in the industry?
Black SupaFly: CATCH UP! No Disrespect, good luck to everybody but don’t get in our way
What projects do you have in the works right now?
Von Swagger: I will be releasing Swagger Effect 2 this Summer I’ll have a release date soon. Possibly a pre tape before that called Swag Way 2.
Black SupaFly: This is the moment of truth! Dropping Colossal: The Pregame on Black Friday and I’ll be dropping Colossal: The Celebration on New Years. Turn Up!
Is there anyone in specific that you want to collab with or are inspirations to you?
Black SupaFly: Maybach Music Group. That’s it because they the truth and they’re doing their thing right now. They’re like the older us.
Von Swagger: I would say Lauren Hill because every time I hear her music I’m inspired to do something different with mine. Louie: I would love to work with Diddy because he’s just THAT GUY! When you hear Diddy you just hear money. Dizzy: I would like to collab with Pharrell, I like his artistry as far as animation maybe I could collab with him on a BBC joint one day.
Flex: I would love to work with Hugh Heffner because I got a CRAZY party idea for the Play Boy Mansion.
What is the motivation behind all of your hard work?
Flex: What keeps the group together for real I would say, Bino. That’s our brother, he’s been incarcerated since ’09 but hes gonna be home soon and it’s gonna be the biggest party of the year #FREEBINO
What can we expect from CircleSide in the near future?
Dizzy: The Takeover.
Louie: We plan on showing everyone what real work is. We’re just working!
Mike Perfect: We have Luxe every Thursday, Anatomy every Friday. A lot more parties, birthdays, events and music!
